Barrier® 50W
Dichlobenil Herbicide
Recommendations
Under new asphalt when paving parking lots, roads, streets, airports, outdoor theaters, driveways, stadium sub-surfaces, tennis courts, running tracks, cart paths, bike paths. |
Barrier® 50W, used as a herbicide under asphalt just prior to paving, creates a vapor barrier that stops all vegetative growth. Weed seed germination is inhibited. Also, the growing tips of roots and the sprouts from rhizomes and stolons are inhibited. Application of Barrier 50W will prevent the blemishes and repairs associated with surface heaving, punctures and sprouting weeds for several years as long as the asphalt surface remains intact.
There is minimum risk to ornamentals growing adjacent to the asphalt since any roots penetrating the treated area are pruned off and dichlobenil is not picked up by the root system. It should be remembered, too, that roots of mature trees can extend tremendous distances. Up to 150 ft. for a 60 ft. tall elm. With Barrier 50W between them, both the asphalt and the tree are protected.
Apply to soil surface after final grade is achieved and immediately before sealer coat is applied. Use 20 lbs. Barrier 50W per acre in 75 to 100 gallons of water.
- Controls many kinds of weeds - annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds
- Inhibits weed seed germination and checks roots and shoots attempting to penetrate the barrier
- Trees and woody ornamentals are not affected
- Can be used adjacent to valuable trees and landscape plantings
- Prevents damage to road shoulders and other asphalt from perennial roots and encroaching grasses
- Easily applied as a spray
