imidiPRo™ New Option for Imidacloprid Users
May 1, 2006
Kansas City, Missouri – PBI/Gordon
Corporation has announced the addition of ImidiPro™ Systemic Insecticide
to their Gordon’s Professional Turf and Ornamental product line. The active
ingredient in ImidiPro, imidacloprid, is used extensively in the management of
insect pests that attack turfgrass and ornamentals.
ImidiPro Systemic Insecticide
is Gordon’s professional 2-pound flowable formulation of imidacloprid. “Now
that imidacloprid is off patent there will be many new players in this market,” says
John Spaulding, Product Manager for Gordon’s insecticides. “We wanted
to give the marketplace a value brand backed by a name they know will give them
a quality formulation and stand behind their product,” said Spaulding, “Gordon’s
is a name they trust.” The ImidiPro package size is unique to the professional
industry. “We’re giving the market a 20-ounce bottle, just enough
to treat one acre of turfgrass,” says Spaulding.
ImdiPro is a systemic
insecticide which offers plant residual protection from white grubs and many
other turfgrass pests as well as protecting ornamentals from sucking and piercing
insects. ImidiPro should be applied prior to infestation or at the first sign
of insect activity to allow adequate product uptake by target plants.
“Imidacloprid
has been the premier product in professional insect control since it first came
out,” says Spaulding, “because of it’s low mammalian toxicity
and broad-spectrum insect protection.” ImidiPro has a CAUTION signal word,
making it an excellent choice for insect control in public outdoor and interiorscaped
areas. ImidiPro is also a low odor formulation. ImidiPro has proven efficacy
against white grubs, billbugs, weevils and cutworm in turfgrasses as well as
aphids, Japanese beetles, leafminers, sawfly larvae, scale and whiteflies on
ornamentals. Application options include soil injection and soil drench application
around trees and shrubs as well as spray application on ornamental, pome fruit
and pecan trees, grapes and turfgrass sites. ImidiPro is also labeled for ant
control.
PBI/Gordon is best known for their Trimec® Herbicides and, more
recently, for SpeedZone®, Surge® and Q4® Herbicides. “But
we’re not just an herbicide company any more,” says Spaulding. “ImidiPro
is the second insecticide we’ve introduced recently,” he explained,
citing the company’s organic Azatrol® EC Insecticide which was introduced
in 2003. The company has plans to further enhance their insecticide product offerings,
according to Spaulding.
